We don't really know the origin of the Hartmann family. Yet the family book, "Slektene Hartmann i Danmark og Norge ca. 1570-1945", written in 1945 by the general consul Hjalmar Hartmann, starts the family history in Braunschweig in 1570 (at that time, part of Danmark) with Christopher Hartmann.
